Originally from Durban, I matriculated in 1996 from Grosvenor Girl's High School. I always had a longing to travel and left South Africa in 1997 to do just that. I began my travels in the United States and then moved across the great Atlantic to the UK. After several years of great experiences and loads of fun I returned to South Africa and began my studies at the University of Johannesburg in 2005.

I qualified from the University of Johannesburg with a Masters degree in Chiropractic in 2012. Since qualifying I have locumed for various chiropractors whilst they were on maternity leave. I have my own practice in Bryanston and have now joined Prana and Co.

1. WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic means to heal with ones hands and is a healthcare profession specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of neuromusculoskeletal disorders and biomechanical joint dysfunction.

2. WHEN SHOULD I SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

Chiropractic treatment has proven to greatly help and successfully treat the following conditions:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Whiplash
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Sporting injuries
  • Pregnancy related musculoskeletal pain
  • Birth trauma and colic
  • Arthritis and joint pain

3. HOW DOES CHIROPRACTIC WORK?

As a natural and complementary healthcare solution, chiropractic works first to understand the cause and source of your complaint. Chiropractic involves safe, gentle and specific manipulation of the spine and other areas of the body unlock joints that are not moving correctly, to ensure greater and improved movement and to relieve pain which allows your body to heal itself.

4. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU VISIT A CHIROPRACTOR?

A visit to a chiropractor is a very similar experience to visiting a GP or other medical specialist. The difference is that the process and treatment of your complaint is always done from a holistic, drug free perspective. Your initial consult includes a physical exam which involves appropriate neurological tests whereby muscle strength, nerve function and joint function as well as body balance and alignment are determined. Once the diagnosis has been made your chiropractor will recommend a treatment plan and continue with treatment.

5. WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE NEEDED TO BE A CHIROPRACTOR?

Chiropractic is a 6 year Masters degree. Chiropractors qualify as doctors of chiropractic.

6. WHAT DOES MY TREATMENT INVOLVE?

After diagnosing the cause of the problem, I begin me treatment by working on the soft tissue in the area. The work that I do as far as soft tissue is concerned could involve the following three things:

  • Massage
  • Ischaemic compression
  • Dry needling

This is then followed by spinal manipulative therapy and stretching.

I run a cash practice which means that payment is made up front and the patient then needs to claim back from their medical aids. All prices are within medical aid rates.

Initial Consult: R600 (45min-1 hour)
